August 1 - 3, 2018
9 - 4 pm
For students entering grades 6 - 9 in Fall 2018
During this fun 3-Day workshop students will create their own designs on fabric using the traditional method of Indonesian Batik. This exciting process involves the application of melted wax to fabric to create a resist and slowly building layers of color by dipping the fabric into vats of dye. Participants will learn how to use several tools to apply the wax, including brushes, a "tjanting" tool, and a "tap" (wax stamp.) Learn how to plan a design, combine colors through the dye process, and create crackle textures with beeswax and paraffin. Our days at the studio will be combined with fun in the great outdoors at Magnuson Park, shared lunches and drawing activities.
